Our deck is where folks gather for evening conversation and watching the day go to sleep
Welcome to the Dakota Spur Hotel in beautiful Lead, South Dakota. We are in the hotel business because we love to serve our guests. Making our guests happy makes us happy. We work hard to provide you with the greatest hotel experience by having the cleanest rooms we can provide and attending to your needs. We make guests happy by being available: Do you need something? Let us know. Can we help guide you to interesting places around us? We can provide area maps and suggestions on what is happening, what is interesting, some history about our hotel and the area? We make guests feel special by serving a Continental Breakfast with real dishes and silverware and your delicious coffee is in real cups. We don’t like the taste of Styrofoam and think that you probably don’t either. We are a small hotel in the Northern Black Hills and we specialize in serving you. Imagine a stay where your days and nights are relaxing, adventuresome, and filled with new experiences. The hotel began its life as a Christian Science Church in 1923 and was converted into a hotel in the 1980’s. It is now our delight to offer you a comfortable place to rest and to make sure that you’re taken care of.
The Main Hotel; Nine rooms with one bed per room and each room with its own, private bath.
The Kruger House: Five rooms, each with double or triple beds for families or friends, a private bath, and refrigerator and microwave.
Our uniques Lounge: Here we serve a delightful breakfast but you can also play pool, Foosball, simply relax and watch a large screen TV, or hold parties.
We are a unique hotel with a long list of amenities: a touch of ‘Boutique’, a touch of ‘Bed-and-Breakfast’, and just full of coziness and relaxation. We offer a fantastic Guest Lounge where we serve a fantastic breakfast and where the entire family can relax and play. We have a free pool table and a free Foosball table. This area is available for family gatherings, Wedding Rehearsal dinners, Reunions, and other such gatherings (and we can help you select from several catering groups in the Lead area). We have a great smoking deck where groups often sit and relax after an exciting day wandering the Black Hills. For motorcyclists, we offer a concrete pad for parking your bike along with a wash-station to keep the bike clean.
We can provide frosted mugs for your beer or real wine glasses and a wine cooling bucket. And, a friendly Convenience Store is right across the street.
Because we value our guests, we offer discounts for Seniors and our Military (Thank you for your service!).
The Black Hills Area:
The beauty of the Black Hills is that no matter when you visit, there are fun activities everywhere. If you’re visiting during the summer, you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the famous Black Hills and partake in activities such as hiking, biking, and relaxing at our many lakes. If you will be here during our beautiful and busy winter, the Hotel will be a delightful respite from your activities such as snowmobiling, skiing, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing. We’ll make sure you’re warm and cozy even during the coldest of nights!
The Black Hills is such a popular area to visit that there is almost something going on in Lead or an area close by.
Lead is a historic mining town that was once the home of the Homestake Gold Mine: when it closed in 2001 it was the largest, deepest, and richest mine in the western hemisphere. The mine is now home to the Sanford Laboratory where world-renowned, Nobel Prize-winning, research is being conducted for Neutrinos, Dark Matter, and Wimps (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). The leading-edge research being conducted 4,850 feet below the surface brings renowned scientists from around the world.
Lead is close to historic Deadwood, a gambling mecca and also, Sturgis – home of the world-famous Motorcycle Rally … but when you tire of all the noise and hustle-bustle, the Dakota Spur Hotel offers the solitude and relaxation you want and deserve.
The Black Hills is full of many, many interesting places to visit and things to do. The winding roads are uncrowded and enjoyed by all drivers. The scenery is so dramatic that many people tell us that we have drives that cannot be matched by any other places in the world. Of course, we are famous for Mt. Rushmore with the carvings of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt but you can also tour fantastic Custer State Park and Crazy Horse (which, when completed, will be the largest monument in the world). The Black Hills is also chock-a-block with caves; Jewel Cave is the third longest cave in the world and Wind Cave, the sixth longest cave in the world. Wind Cave is notable for its displays of calcite walls and ceiling formations known as boxwork because of its unusual shapes.
Just a few miles north of the Black Hills is the town of Belle Fourche (‘Bell Foosh’), the center of the United States, also, a delightful drive to the west is Devils Tower, the first National Monument. And, don’t forget Badlands National Park and Wall Drugs!
