Things to do in Lead

Lead offers so much to do, you will never run out of things to do:

Take a walk along Historic Lead sites.  Use our Map (And, the Dakota Spur Hotel is one of the Historic spots.)

Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center:  Learn about our past and how we are leading the way to the future.

Black Hills Gold Mining Museum Enjoy lots of history and take a full mine tour.

Historic Homestake Opera House:  This Lead treasure is over 100 years old and hosts theater, dance, and concerts, tours, and presentations all year round.

Fly Fishing: the Lead area is full of great fishing streams and ponds.

Hiking Trails: We have short, medium length, and long trails.  We have easy trails, we have difficult trails – all of them have fantastic scenery.

Snow Skiing: An easy five mile drive gets you Terry Peak, the highest ski slope between the Rockies and the Alps.  And a lot less crowded than Colorado!

Bike Riding: Many people love to ride Spearfish Canyon and the Mickelson Trail goes over 100 miles from the north end of the Hills to the South end.

Snowmobiling: With over 300 miles of marked trails, Lead is the gateway to some fabulous fun.
